Children’s Music Classes with the Orff Approach

When we engage with music from childhood, our connection with the world around us transforms. At Sarv School’s workshops, this magic enters children’s lives through play, instruments, and singing. Not only do they become familiar with musical concepts, but they also experience collaboration and teamwork in a group setting.

Among the many methods for teaching music to children worldwide, the Orff Schulwerk approach is recognized as one of the most effective and creative. Developed by German composer Carl Orff in the mid-20th century, this approach integrates musical elements and movement by drawing upon cultural traditions, individual characteristics, and games. Each class is tailored to the unique qualities of the children, ensuring that every child receives the necessary instruction at the right time.

With 25 years of experience in conducting orchestras and establishing children’s ensembles, Mehrdad Teymoori leads these music workshops with a strong track record in music education.

Using instruments such as the xylophone and recorder, along with carefully designed rhythmic and purposeful games, these classes allow children to internalize rhythm, harmony, and melody in a joyful and engaging environment. Through playing instruments, they develop proper breathing techniques, hand-mind coordination, and enhanced focus. Additionally, ensemble playing fosters social skills and teamwork.

Every six months, Sarv School’s music students participate in an educational recital, performing in front of their parents.

 

In addition to learning concert etiquette, they gain confidence and stage presence, experiencing what it means to be a real musician.

At the end of the Orff program, children reach a level where, with guidance from their teacher—who now understands their personality, physical abilities, and mental strengths—they can choose their specialized instrument and take their first steps toward professional musicianship with greater confidence and skill.
